A fabulous quality expanding Cheney faux leather finish suitcase, made in England around 1930. A lovely mid brown colour.
It has a good quality sturdy brown metal handle and reinforcements to each corner. The lining is a fine gold honeycomb patterned paper, with a ‘Headline Luggage, Made in England’ trade mark sticker on the inside. There are also remnants of a 'Western Railway' sticker which also adds to its beauty. The case is in fair to good condition for its age with a 10cm x 10cm ‘Y’ shaped crack in the bottom and just a few small marks here and there that enhances the richness of this case. Still incredibly sturdy and useful for holidaying or a stylish storage solution!
The case is fitted with English Cheney expandable hinges to allow for extra case depth and catches which operate nicely to close the case. Both locks and hinges have the Cheney stamp mark. No keys included. Very clean inside and out.
C W Cheney and Sons Ltd were a locksmiths specialising in suitcase locks. They were established in 1920 in Hockley Birmingham. They were associated with quality craftsmanship and good quality cases.
Size: 65.5cm wide x 42cm tall when standing on feet x 20cm deep. Hinges expand to a depth of 24cm.
