This is a very attractive cloisonné style decorative egg with gold effect stand. Thought to date back to 1950/1960s it is in good condition with a few missing green enamel/stone beads. The shell is made of a brass coloured metal and opens to reveal a shiny gold egg cavity as shown in the photos.
Cloisonné is an ancient technique for decorating metalwork with coloured materials held in place or separated by pieces of wire which form individual pockets. Enamel and gemstones are used to painstakingly decorate these compartments which results in a delicate and highly attractive finish.
The beads used to decorate this egg are a pretty sage green colour. It comes complete with the gold stand as pictured.
This egg may also be of interest to collectors of Champlevé enameled artefacts.
Size: Egg stands 6.5cm tall x 4.5cm diameter at widest point.
