A beautiful Victorian Tunbridge ware walnut work box in overall good condition for its age. Made during the 18th and 19th centuries in Royal Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge, the boxes typically consisted of hundreds of small different coloured wooden mosaic pieces inlaid to make intricate patterns. Mother of pearl was also used to provide an interesting colour.
There is one piece of missing mother of pearl and a couple of nicks in the wood. The box is structurally sound with a hairline crack in the base. It still has the original green hessian fabric on the base.
Use as a jewellery or keepsake box, or simply for display.
